Doors vs Partiful
Partiful is an app.
Doors is a link.
Partiful is a phone-native experience: guests verify a number, replies arrive by text, and the whole thing lives where that crowd already is. Doors is a link-and-email experience: tap, type a name and an email, done. Both count a headcount properly. The real question is how your guests want to answer. Here's the honest split, including where Partiful is the better tool.
Five things that actually differ
every cell says what that tool does · rows only where they differWhere Partiful is the better pick
For a house party, a birthday, a last-minute hang among friends who all text each other anyway, Partiful is genuinely fun and its core product is free, and a text reminder lands where that crowd actually looks, which an email does not. It also does more than it is given credit for: a capacity cap with an automatic waitlist, an RSVP deadline, a questionnaire with typed answers, and a guest list you can hide. Doors earns its keep when the guest list runs past your own contacts and people need to reply without handing over a phone number.
No phone number required
To RSVP on Partiful, a guest logs in with a phone number and a code texted to it, and Partiful is explicit that this holds "even if they were invited via email." Among friends that's nothing. For a church potluck or a school fundraiser it is a real barrier: people are reluctant to hand a cell number to an organizer they barely know. Doors works by link: tap, enter a name and an email, done. The email is the only contact detail Doors asks for, and it is used for their confirmation, their calendar invite and their reminders. Never for a text, and never sold. The only company that sees it besides you is the one that delivers the mail.
A list you can actually hand over
Both tools export a CSV. The difference is what is in it: Partiful's export leaves out guest phone numbers "per our Privacy Policy", and notes that names in Partiful "are often only first names." That is the right call for a social app and the wrong shape for a treasurer reconciling payments or a caterer working from a name list. A Doors export carries the full name each guest typed, plus every custom question as its own column (plate count, dish to bring, dietary needs), ready to total.
Runs in a browser, with nothing to install
Partiful has an RSVP deadline, and by its own documentation the setting "is currently only available in the Partiful app." If you organise from a desktop at work, or from a shared church office machine, that means installing an app to close RSVPs. Doors runs entirely in a browser: creating the event, setting the deadline and the cap, watching the count, exporting the list.
Two reminder channels, not one better one
Partiful sends reminders by SMS, iMessage or WhatsApp. Doors emails every confirmed guest about three days before the event and again the morning of. This is a channel difference, not a capability one, and which is better depends entirely on your guests: a text is harder to ignore, an email is easier to forward to a spouse, print for the fridge, or read on a work machine where a personal phone isn't out.
It's a friend party: a house party or birthday where everyone texts each other anyway, and a reminder that buzzes beats one that sits in an inbox.
You're spending real money on the headcount, your guest list goes wider than your own contacts, and people should be able to RSVP with just a link, with no app and no account.
